Your Medicare timeline

Know what to do, and when to do it.

Medicare runs on deadlines. Follow these steps around your 65th birthday and every fall after, and you will never miss a window. When your part is done, ours begins.

Your window opens

Your Initial Enrollment Period is 7 months long, and it starts now.

  • Sign up for Part A and Part B through Social Security if you are not already receiving benefits
  • If you already get Social Security, you are enrolled automatically and your card arrives by mail
  • Gather your doctor list, prescriptions, and current coverage

Compare your options

This is the research month. Bring your questions to us.

  • Compare Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement paths
  • Check which plans include your doctors and cover your prescriptions
  • Talk it through with a licensed, local broker

Make your decisions

Finalize your choices so everything starts on time.

  • Choose your plan and a Part D plan if you need one
  • Submit your applications
  • Confirm your enrollment details

You turn 65

If you signed up in the months before, coverage usually starts on the first day of this month.

  • Watch for confirmation letters and ID cards
  • Your 6-month Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period can begin now, once you are 65 and enrolled in Part B
  • Keep every confirmation notice

Your window closes

Sign up now if you have not. Coverage starts the month after you enroll.

  • Make sure everything is enrolled and active
  • Missing this window can mean late penalties and waiting for the General Enrollment Period (January 1 to March 31)

Read your Annual Notice of Change

Your plan mails a letter listing what changes next year: costs, benefits, networks, and drug coverage. Bring it to us.

New plans are published

Next year’s plans and all changes to existing plans become public. We review how they affect you directly.

October 15 to December 7

Annual Enrollment Period

Stay on your plan or switch to a new one for coverage starting January 1. We compare multiple carriers for your situation.

New coverage begins

Use your plan early. Confirm your doctors are still in network and your medicines are covered.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment

Already in a Medicare Advantage plan? You get one chance to switch plans or return to Original Medicare. We check in to make sure all is going well.

Phase three · Maintenance

Your work is done. Now it’s our turn.

Once you are enrolled, we take care of things. This is the maintenance phase, and it lasts as long as you are our client.

Moving, retiring, losing other coverage, or qualifying for Extra Help can open a Special Enrollment Period. We take it from there.
